Learn more about Suzano Ecolig

In nature, lignin is one of the main components of wood and is present in diverse plants, giving them stiffness, impermeability and resistance against biological and environmental attacks. It is an abundant biomaterial coming from a renewable (bio-based) source, making up around 25% of eucalyptus wood and corresponding to nearly 30% of non-fossil organic carbon in the biosphere. It is also a co-product of the pulp production process and hence does not require any additional plantation area and does not compete with the production of food or feed.

Suzano Ecolig is a high-purity technical eucalyptus kraft lignin with high antioxidant potential and high absorption of UV radiation. It exhibits multiple chemical functionalities, which gives it versatility for diverse modifications. It is a bio-based product extracted from trees cultivated and harvested in Brazil using certified and sustainable forest management practices. A sustainable solution for replacing a large proportion of fossil-based products.

Yes. Suzano Ecolig is a non-toxic, safe-for-use bioproduct that replaces fossil-based products, which are harmful to people and the environment.

Suzano Ecolig’s production process was developed by Suzano’s research & development team in 2019. We produce lignin at our Limeira Unit in São Paulo, which houses the world’s first certified eucalyptus lignin plant with annual production capacity of 20,000 tons, demonstrating the company’s pioneering role in the market.

No. Ecolig is a technical eucalyptus kraft lignin and hence, it undergoes controlled industrial procedures after being extracted from nature. To supply a stable and consistent bioproduct, Suzano follows rigorous quality, sustainability and safe supply standards that begin from standardization of the raw material (all our planted eucalyptus trees come from selected clones) to process control at our laboratory and our industrial structure in order to arrive at bioproduct with proven and reproducible quality.

No. Compared to other fossil-based raw materials, lignin offers an excellent cost-benefit ratio. Contact us for more information.

With chemical potential for multiple functionalities, Suzano Ecolig has solutions for the Phenolic Resins, Elastomers and Thermoplastics segments and other initiatives that make up the universe of biopossibilities as a replacement for fossil-based products.

Yes! Our clients are approving our products for diverse applications, which attest to the positive results for our target markets. In addition, Ecolig is a commercial bioproduct available for sale. Contact us to get a quote.
